Product Description
Bushnell Tour v3 Slope Laser Rangefinder The Bushnell Tour v3 Slope Laser Rangefinder features PinSeeker with JOLT technology which provides the golfer short vibrating bursts to confirm PinSeeker is activated and the laser is locked onto the flag. The v3 Slope sets a new standard in the complete laser rangefinder package - look, feel, and performance. Bushnell's patented Slope Technology provides the golfer with compensated distance based on hole's incline or decline, so never fall short again. Slope measures slope, +/-1 deg of angle, and compensated range, based upon ball trajectory and type of club used. All shown on an LCD display. A 150-yard uphill shot of 6 deg really plays at 166 yards. Without slope compensation, you would come up 16 yards short. Additional features: Five-times magnification Ranges 5-1,000 yards/meters; 300+ yards to flag yards/meters New ergonomic design with stable rubber grip Accuracy to within one yard Not legal for tournament play Two-year warranty

I brought this V3 slope addition primarily for use on practice ranges that have mixed elevations (higher tee boxes, lower range targets, higher range targets, etc). Most times I just look at my SkyCaddieto see the pin distances based on where the teeing area is moved for the day and from where I set up to hit. The SkyCaddiefor most courses I have played include the driving ranges and target distances. For practice sessions, however, I really wanted to know the actual distance the practice target was "playing." At my primary, hilly driving facility, it turns out a "lower/downhill" target when lasered indicted 153 yards (which agreed with the SkyCaddie), but plays as 145 yards and "n" degrees down (both displayed). Good to know in practice. I realize that a lower green, let's say at only 120 yards, will not be impacted as much by elevation because of ball trajectory vs. a 220 yard pin with a different ball trajectory. Still fun.
Now for the caution, which I hope doesn't cause me to return this slope addition- - - still thinking. I use a SkyCaddie SGX for regular play. However, if I ever wanted to use a laser finder, this slope edition is OK for daily play . . BUT . . . you cannot use this device in any kind of tournament, even if you turn off the slope / plays-as distance feature. Thus, this slope edition is not tournament legal. Its less expensive counterpart, the V3 non-slope model includes jolt / pin seeker and is legal in any tournament where measuring devices are allowed (e.g. a SkyCaddie). I should have known this, but I missed this nuance on the V3 slope and V3 non-slope product pages. The V3 non-slope product page indicates "tournament legal." The V3 Slope product page doesn't indicate anything. For me, it would have been nice to have had the notation "not" tournament legal" explicitly indicated. Still, for fun travel to courses that have raised tees or those very low greens - vacation places - for fun play, this is a fun device. . . and for my primary goal of knowing true distances on hilly ranges, this is nice.
Re-cap. Excellent device. Couldn't be easier to use or quicker to display. Jolt indication worth buying the V3 product over the V2. The "V3 Slope" is a neat product, but it is not tournament legal (even if you turn off the slope feature). Will still use my SkyCaddie SGX for regular play because of the wealth of other information provided that I wouldn't want to be without. Will use this laser mostly at hilly practice ranges or if range is not in SkyCaddie(very rare these days). Before buying a laser, strongly consider the GPS golf devices, like SkyCaddie. IMO, a laser as an "additional" device makes sense, but not as your only golf device.
It was very easy to use and the jolt technology to confirm lock on flag comes in very handy. I thought it was gimmicky at first but it helps when it confirms flag target lock when there are other objects within the view.
Here're my Pros and Cons
Pros:
Easy to use and light
Fits right into your hand
One hand operation is possible as long as you hold it steady
Jolt technology with vibration confirmation is a plus
Easy viewing (My friends range finders were harder to to get visual. Your eyes had to be just in the right place to view targets)
Very accurate if you can lock on target with proper use
Cons:
Batter cover screw comes loose after awhile. I had to screw it in few times during my 4 rounds
Jolt Technology can throw you off if it happens to lock on another target within the view
It locks on other target outside of center sometimes (I don't know how this happens, perhaps, it thinks another target is a flag even when I have flag in center)
Hard to measure distance to "ground". I had to pick a stick like object to get accurate reading
Overall, cons I've listed above are mostly operational issues and I'm getting better at getting accurate reading. When I do lock in on a target, it is very accurate.
I recommend, using this rangefinder in combination with course distance markers to disregard any miss-reading.
I recommend this rangefinders for those who are looking for a good one.
This unit is accurate, simple to use, and serve the purpose. It acquires the target quite easily. The reading looks a little primitive. Changing the model requires you to hold the fire button for few seconds, and it only work right after you turn on the unit. Again, the operation can be a little more friendly and sophisticated.
The build quality is OK but doesn't have the high class look and feel.
The provided soft case is functional, but will be nice if it is a hard case.
This unit can be used as regular range finder as well. I tried target 800m away, and it read easily.
